Walker Independence, the spin-off series that’ll establish the Walker franchise on The CW, has been picked up for order by the network. Cast in the lead is Katherine McNamara. The actress is best known for her work on Shadow Hunters and for her turn as Mia Smoak in the Arrowverse.

Arrow fans had hoped to see McNamara’s don Oliver Queen’s mantle in Green Arrow and the Canaries, a series that would have seen Mia team up with Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake to fight crime, but that, unfortunately, wasn’t meant to be. Thankfully, McNamara has remained under The CW banner and we will get to see her take up a starring role in this period piece.

The network isn’t known for period dramas, its line-up strays toward the modern period with occasional dips into the past in some series, but Walker Independence will take place in the 1800s. It’s one of two period dramas premiering on The CW in the 2022-2023 television year, the second is The Winchesters.

The series will premiere Thursday, Oct. 6 at 9 p.m. ET after the Walker season 3 premiere.

Walker Independence synopsis

The official synopsis via The CW:

"Set in the late 1800s, this origin story follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West, as she crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, a small town with a big future."
