The Flowers in the Attic prequel series–Flowers in the Attic: The Origin–will take Lifetime viewers into the life of Olivia Winfield before she infamously locked her grandchildren in the attic of her home. Over the course of the four part miniseries, we’re meant to come to understand her choices and the person she had to become, in her mind, to protect her family.

The series starts with “Part 1: The Marriage” which introduces us to Olivia as an intelligent and inquisitive businesswoman who works with her father, Mr. Winfield. Her days are spent in books, managing business affairs, and she has little time for romance until she makes the acquaintance of Malcolm Foxworth.

The wealthy Virginian takes a shine to Olivia. Faster than is wise, Olivia falls deeply in love with Malcolm and marries him. It’s a decision that’ll have dire consequences, but it’s not until Olivia is carried away from her father, her business, and her home to Foxworth Hall that she begins to understand Malcolm is not the man she thought him to be.

In the drafty halls of the man’s estate, in a place that seems only to hold to pale sunlight and the warm glow of candlelight, Olivia learns that she married a monster and trapped herself in more ways than she could have ever imagined.

Flowers in the Attic: The Origin Part 1 Lifetime release date

“Part 1: The Marriage” premieres Saturday, July 9 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime. The episode will re-air on Sunday, July 10 at 12:01 a.m. and 10:03 p.m. ET. If you’d prefer to stream part 1 of Flowers in the Attic: The Origin, the episode will be available to stream on mylifetime.com as well on Sunday.

“Part 2: The Mother” will premiere on Saturday, July 16 at 8 p.m. ET on the channel.
