Selena Gomez and four more big snubs from the 2022 Emmy nominations

Only Murders In The Building -- “Framed” - Episode 202 -- A memorial for Bunny Folger provides an opportunity for our trio to question their neighbors, while they also try to get rid of a very implicating piece of evidence. The 74th Emmy nominations were announced July 12, and there were quite a few surprises and snubs. Today, I will take a look at a few snubs that shocked me.

Every time we have awards announced, whether it’s the Oscars, Tonys, or the Emmys, people will walk away upset. Typically, I’m the guy walking away upset.

Of course, I always have some personal picks that I see that don’t get nominated, which I understand, but sometimes (like Tom Pelphrey two years ago), you are unsure of what the voting body is thinking.

Here’s who got snubbed this year.

Emmy 2022 snubs

Selena Gomez – Only Murders in the Building

The Emmy’s nominated Only Murders in the Building‘s Steve Martin and Martin Short but Gomez was left without a nomination. I love this show and Steve and Martin deserved the nomination but without her this show isn’t nearly as good. Gomez did become only the second Latina to be nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series as a producer. So the entire day wasn’t bad for Gomez but this was easily the biggest snub.

Jerrod Carmichael – Rothaniel – Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded)

While Bo Burnham got nominated for his direction on Rothaniel, Jerrod Carmichael was snubbed for his stand-up work on the special. Nevertheless, Carmichael gave us one of the most creative and innovative specials we have EVER seen. He used Rothaniel to come out to the world that he was gay and how he did it was so unique and powerful but at the same time had you laughing, it was a masterclass in art.

Pachinko – EVERYTHING

This one, I don’t get. Everyone predicted Pachinko would end up being nominated in several if not all, categories. Instead, the show received ONE, JUST ONE nomination. I am sorry, Stranger Things fans, but it’s an absolute JOKE that that show is nominated, and this one isn’t in Outstanding Drama Series. I am simply blown away by this one.

Hamish Linklater – Midnight Mass

Another nomination that I didn’t expect, but I was still thoroughly disappointed that didn’t happen was a nom for Hamish Linklater. His performance was downright perfection. He mesmerized you as Father Paul with this sincere and thought-provoking portrayal that left you clinging onto every single word.

True Story – Outstanding Drama Series

I’m sure people will read this and roll their eyes, but honestly, I don’t care. The work that was done on this show was tremendous. From the fantastic performances from Kevin Hart, Wesley Snipes, and Theo Rossi to the writing of the show to the direction, it was top to bottom one of the best shows that have come out in the last year. It’s sad to see shows like this never get recognized by these award shows.
