Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Euphoria’s 16 Emmy nominations
By Sabrina Reed
It should come as no surprise to those who have Euphoria on their radar, whether they watch the HBO drama or not, that the series has received a substantial amount of Emmy nominations for the 2022 ceremony. A total of 16!
Viewers can count on sitting on the edge of their seats as they wait to find out whether or not Zendaya will take home the Oustanding Lead Actress in a drama series. The actress made headlines in 2020 when she became the youngest person to receive the award. And, she’s back in the news due to Euphoria‘s nomination for Outstanding Drama series. At 25, Zendaya is the youngest woman to be in the running for the award since she’s an executive producer on the show.
The star’s nominations don’t stop there. She’s also up for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for “I’m Tired” which she co-wrote with Labrinth and Sam Levinson as well as “Elliott’s Song,” which was co-written with Labrinth and Muzhda Zemar-McKenzie.
Given Zendaya’s compelling performance in Euphoria season 2, especially in episode 5 “Stand Still Like the Mockingbird,” the accolades she’s receiving are expected. If she hadn’t have been nominated, it would have been the kind of snub that left people talking for days.
The same can be said for Sydney Sweeney whose downward spiral as Cassie had the Internet abuzz all season. Cassie was an absolute mess. Sweeney played her with such commitment and truly gave herself over to a role which required her to be unintentionally funny, unhinged, and pathetic, to be honest.
Also among Euphoria‘s nominations is Coleman Domingo for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. His role as Ali, Rue’s sponsor, has been a fan favorite since he spoke candidly about Rue’s drug use and has supported her even when she’s crossed the line. Martha Kelly, who played Laurie in season 2, is up for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Her unsettling turn as the local drug dealer that may or may not be trafficking young women definitely deserved attention.
