Resident Evil has been a staple in households since the first Playstation game released in 1996. 26 years later and one video game has spawned an entire franchise which includes novels and comics as well as live-action and animated film adaptations.

As Alice, Milla Jovovich is the most recognized figure a part of the franchise, at least in terms of its live-action adaptations, but Netflix will be introducing a new hero to their audience. Played by Ella Balinska (Charlie’s Angels), Jade Wesker will take viewers into a new Resident Evil adventure just as much fueled by horrific science and conspiracies.

Split into two different time periods, the eight episode series covers the initial outbreak of the T-Virus in 2022 and how it ravaged society, changing humanity forever.

By 2036, not only has the population taken a significant dip, but also those that were infected by the T-Virus still wander the streets. Jade has made it her mission to track down everyone involved in the break out over a decade prior and hold them accountable for their actions.

Something went horribly wrong at Umbrella Corporation all those years ago, and she’s going to get to the bottom of it even though it’ll put her life at risk.

Like, the video games and the films, Resident Evil (2022) is for mature audiences. This should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the franchise, but if you’re not, here’s why you should exercise caution if horror isn’t a genre you usually delve into.

Why Resident Evil (2022) is rated TV-MA

Resident Evil (2022) is an action horror. Viewers should expect intense and frightening sequences, body horror, blood, gore, and violence. Also, strong language is used throughout the series. This is not a kid friendly horror show and there are many unsettling elements. If this isn’t a deterrent to you then you’ll be able to stream all eight episodes of the series on Thursday, July 14.
