Where the Crawdads Sing, one of the buzziest films to come to theaters, is an adaptation of the even buzzier novel of the same name by Delia Owens.

The story follows Kya, a young woman who raised herself to adulthood in the marshlands of North Carolina after she was abandoned as a child. Her life hasn’t been easy, but it’s made even harder when she’s accused of murder.

Kya had a connection to a young man from town and when he turned up dead, the folks of Barkley Cove pointed their fingers in accusation at her.

Much of this has to do with the mystery that surrounds Kya and biases that have leaked into the public’s perceptions of her because they left her on her own.

One thing is certain, though, the truth will out, and people may not like what they learn as the investigation surrounding the murder plays out in the courtroom. Yes, the marshlands have their secrets. Kya does, too, but the same can be said for those in Barkley Cove. Nothing is ever as it seems no matter what someone may want to believe.
