Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin: What is the Y2K Survivors Club?

* Spoilers for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin episodes 1-3 below

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is finally here, with HBO Max giving us the first three episodes on premiere day!

The new series stars a set of five new little liars: Bailee Madison as Imogen, Chandler Kinney as Tabby, Maia Reficco as Noa, Zaria as Faran, and Malia Pyles as Minnie. In this spin-off of 2010’s Pretty Little Liars, the teens are certainly harboring secrets but their moms are as well.

We find out that each of the girls’ mothers were also in a friend group back in high school. And , they have some of their own secrets haunting them. Though we don’t know exactly what happened yet, the opening scene gives us an idea that the group wasn’t kind to one troubled teen, Angela Waters. In the present, their daughters have no idea.

In fact, no one seemed to want to help Angela at the New Year’s Eve party. This lead to her unfortunate suicide.

What is the Y2K Survivors Club in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin?

In episode 3, “Chapter 3: Aftermath,” Imogen is missing her mom after she herself committed suicide back in the first episode. Her mother also went to Millwood High, so the teen is going through the yearbook to see her mom when she was her age.

As she’s flipping through, she notices multiple students were part of something called the Y2K Survivors Club in high school. Following that, Imogen starts to do some research and finds out that Angela’s body was found at the Old Harbor warehouses in town.

The club probably refers to those who were at the New Year’s Eve party and were traumatized by seeing what happened to Angela. The poor girl jumped in front of everyone. Y2K is another way of saying the year 2000, which lines up with the timeline as the New Year’s Eve party took place Dec. 31, 1999.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin drops new episodes weekly on HBO Max.
