There are some changes coming to the Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 cast. Who’s in and who’s out? What about Ellen Pompeo? Here’s what we know so far.

There has been a lot of news about Grey’s Anatomy Season 19. The cast is seeing a bit of a shake up.

Well, sort of. Right now, we know of a lot of characters coming into the ensemble series. What we don’t know is how many people are leaving. The series has been quiet about that, including whether the exits at the end of Season 18 are permanent.

So, what do we know so far? Let’s take a look at the new cast members and who could be leaving Grey’s Anatomy Season 19.

Is Ellen Pompeo leaving Grey’s Anatomy in Season 19?

First of all, the big question. When the series was renewed, we learned Ellen Pompeo had signed on for another year. There is no series without Meredith Grey, so this was a relief.

That was until recently. We now know that Meredith won’t be around the whole season. Pompeo has signed onto Orphan, which is going to be a series take on the movie of the same name, and both are based on a true story. Pompeo isn’t completely out, though. She’ll be around for eight episodes.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 new cast members

There are some new cast members joining the series. We have new first-year surgical residents, who seem to hint that the Residency Program will come back.

The new cast members are:

  • Alexis Floyd as Simone Griffin
  • Niko Terho as Lucas Adams
  • Midori Francis as Mika Yasuda
  • Adelaide Kane as Jules Millin
  • Harry Shum Jr. as Daniel Kwan

Who’s out of the cast?

As of right now, all we know is that Richard Flood isn’t coming back. His character was written out during the 18th season and confirmed between his penultimate and final episodes.

There are some questions about other cast members. There are no hints of anyone leaving but we have our concerns about the following:

  • Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey
  • Kevin McKidd as Dr. Owen Hunt
  • Kim Raver as Dr. Teddy Altman
  • Jake Borelli as Dr. Levi Schmitt
  • Jaicy Elliot as Dr. Taryn Helm
  • Scott Speedman as Dr. Nick Marsh

They all had storylines that put their futures on the show at risk. The most concerning characters are Levi and Helm, who were two of the surgical residents who packed up their lockers at the end of the 18th season when the Residency Program closed down.
