Blood of my Blood: Outlander prequel series is officially in the works
Sassenachs, gather around! There’s more Outlander in our future with a prequel series officially in the works! Starz is currently developing Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
As we wait for the highly-anticipated seventh season of the time-travel romance, and for news on a (hopefully!) season 8 renewal, this will be a great addition to have during Droughtlander.
The creative team from Outlander will be working on the prequel series as well. Matthew B. Roberts will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Maril Davis will also executive produce along with Ronald D. Moore, who developed Outalnder for television under their production company Tall Ship Productions. The writers room is currently underway.
The author of the infamous books, Diana Gabaldon, is on board as a consulting producer. Gabaldon is currently working on a prequel book the show is based on, but it isn’t finished yet and is in the beginning stages as far as we know.
It’s interesting that Starz has decided to develop the series before the book is out. But since the novelist is a consulting producer, I’m guessing she shared her brilliant ideas to help them adapt the story.
What is Outlander: Blood of My Blood about?
We don’t know details about the plot yet, other than that we’re going to see the love story of Jamie Fraser’s parents! Thanks to the original series and the books, we know they were as devoted to each other as much as Jamie and Claire are.
We’re going to focus on Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie’s story. I’m going to take a guess and say the show will begin exploring their relationship from when they first meet perhaps? Jamie has briefly shared with Claire onscreen about his parents. The two fell in love, ran away together, and got married in secret. Ellen had quite a few lads pining for her, but it was Brian who she fell for.
No cast members have been announced yet. Since it’s a prequel, I doubt anyone from Outlander will make any appearances. But we’ll have to wait and see how this story will play out.
Hopefully we get more news soon! In the meantime while we wait for updates on the prequel and for Outlander season 7 to premiere, you can watch all six seasons of the series on Starz.
