Is new series Tell Me Lies on Hulu based on a book?
A new, intriguing show is coming to Hulu in the fall! Tell Me Lies will follow a tumultuous but intoxicating relationship between Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco. The series is set to debut Wednesday, Sept. 7.
The story will explore the couple’s toxic relationship over a course of eight years. The two meet in college, and quickly fall into an “addictive entanglement” that will alter their lives and the lives of those around them, according to Hulu.
Grace Van Patten takes on the role of Lucy, while Jackson White plays Stephen. Many great stories are adaptations of novels. Is that the case for the upcoming Hulu series?
Is Tell Me Lies on Hulu based on a book?
Tell Me Lies is based on a book! The 2018 tale, Tell Me Lies: A Novel, is written by author Carola Lovering. The book’s synopsis reads that the story is about the one person who still haunts you – the wrong one. The one you couldn’t let go of or forget.
According to Goodreads, the “thrilling, sexy” coming-of-age story focuses on Lucy and Stephen. The new college freshman is happy to be far away from her mother, whom she’s never forgiven for an act of betrayal in her early teen years.
On campus she meets “confident and cocksure” Stephen, who sees something in Lucy no one else does. The fellow college freshman is trying to forget an incident in his past. If it’s exposed, it could ruin him. The book alternates between Lucy and Stephen’s voices through college and beyond. Lucy knows she has to acknowledge the truth about Stephen, but first has to confront and heal her relationship with her mom.
We don’t know just how closely the new show will follow the book, but either way the story sounds so interesting! This is a series we’re definitely going to be checking out. What about you?
Tell Me Lies premieres Wednesday, Sept. 7 on Hulu.
