A new medical drama is coming to Apple TV+, and this one is based on the real-life events in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Five Days at Memorial will premiere this week.
The series is based on the 2013 novel, Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital, by journalist Sheri Fink. The show stars Vera Farmiga, Cornelius Smith Jr., Adepero Oduye, Julie Ann Emery, Cherry Jones, Molly Hager, Michael Gaston, and Joe Carroll.

How many episodes are in Five Days at Memorial?
Five Days at Memorial will be released globally Friday, Aug. 12 on Apple TV+ with the first three episodes. Those will be followed by one new episode weekly until the finale on Sept. 16. The limited series has a total of eight episodes.
What is Five Days at Memorial about?
The upcoming show is based on real-life events, showing the impact of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath on a local hospital. When the floodwaters rose, power failed, and the heat soared, exhausted medical staff at the hospital were forced to make decisions that would follow them for years to come.
Hurricane Katrina was a large and destructive Category 5 hurricane that happened in August 2005. The natural disaster in New Orleans, Louisiana caused 1,800 deaths. The show’s teaser trailer shows how five days after the storm, thousands were trapped in Memorial Medical Center, a real hospital in New Orleans. Some of the struggles staff faced included running out of food and water.
