When is A Friend of the Family coming out on Peacock?

A new series is coming to Peacock, one that’s based on disturbing true events. A Friend of the Family will make its debut on the streaming service this fall.

The limited drama series tells the story of the Broberg family, whose daughter Jan was kidnapped multiple times over a number of years by their family “friend.” The Brobergs are devoted to their faith, family, and community, but are unprepared for the tactics their neighbor uses to exploit their vulnerabilities, drive them apart, and turn their daughter against them. According to Peacock, we’ll be getting the story of how their lives were permanently changed, and how they survived.

The show stars Anna Paquin as Mary Ann Broberg, Colin Hanks as Bob Broberg, Mckenna Grace as Jan Broberg, Hendrix Yancey as a young Jan Broberg, and Jake Lacy as Robert Berchtold.

Lio Tipton, Austin Stowell, Patrick Fischler Bree Elrod, and Philip Ettinger also round out the cast. Nick Antosca takes on creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer duties.

When can you expect to see the frightening true story play out?

When is A Friend of the Family coming out on Peacock?

A Friend of the Family will make its debut on Thursday, Oct. 6. There will be a total of nine episodes, but it’s not clear if only one episode will be released on premiere day, or multiple ones.

The premiere is called “Horseback Riding in American Falls.” In an interview with Vanity Fair, Antosca said the events in the first episode are almost exactly the same as the order of events that happened in real life. The series was able to portray these elements accurately due to the fact that the real Jan Broberg and her mother Mary Ann are producers on the show.

The whole series is based on the real-life story of Jan Broberg. She was kidnapped by family friend, Robert Berchtold, twice – once when she was 12 years old and again when she was 14. Berchtold sexually assaulted the then young girl, and both of her parents, Mary Ann and Bob, had intimate relationships with Berchtold at different points.

A Friend of the Family premieres Thursday, Oct. 6 on Peacock.
