Lifetime’s new movie, Girl in Room 13,  is based on real-life events. The film will explore the dark world of the $150 billion human trafficking industry. The production stars Anne Heche, Larissa Dias, Max Montesi, and Matt Hamilton.

On Aug. 5, Heche was hospitalized following a fiery car crash, where she collided with a residence in Los Angeles. Since then she was in “critical condition,” according to Deadline. On Aug. 11, the news outlet reported that the movie would continue with its scheduled premiere, as revealed by Lifetime at the Television Critics Association (TCA) virtual press tour.

However, on the morning of Aug. 12, Heche’s family and friends shared a statement that the actress is “not expected to survive” due to suffering from a “severe anoxic brain injury,” according to CNN. She remained in a coma and her loved ones are planning to donate her organs, per the star’s wishes.

Unfortunately later that day, it was announced that the Emmy Award winning actress and mother of two passed away at the age of 53. Though she was legally dead per California law, her heart was still beating to give enough time to find a recipient who would be a match.

As of Aug. 15, a match was found and the actress has been taken off life support, according to PEOPLE. Our thoughts are with Heche’s loved ones at this time.

Because of these developments, it’s not 100% known whether Lifetime will decide to postpone the movie, or stick with their current premiere date. As of this writing, the network hasn’t released any announcements or updates.

is inspired by actual events. It will explore the story of Grace (Dias), who was addicted to opioids after her doctor prescribed them for a sports injury at a very young age. After three times in rehab, she’s ready to turn her life around and takes a job at her family’s restaurant.

But the young woman is coerced by her friend into meeting her former love interest and drug dealer, Richie (Montesi). When she does, she finds herself imprisoned in a hotel room with no way out. Richie repeatedly violates Grace, forces her to consume drugs and alcohol, and starves her with the goal of breaking her down so she becomes compliant and can be sold into human trafficking.

Her mother Janie (Heche) refuses to give up on her daughter, even when her husband and police believe Grace is using again. She stops at nothing to find her daughter, discovering the dark world of human trafficking.
