Keeping Up Appearances actress dies at age 91
Sad news comes from London this Friday, as it’s been confirmed that English actress Josephine Tewson has passed away. She was 91 years old.
Tewson was best known for her role as the neighbor Elizabeth “Liz” Warden in Keeping Up Appearances, the sitcom which ran on BBC1 from 1990 to 1995. Fans were happy when the actress decided to launch her own one-woman show titled Still Keeping Up Appearances? in 2019, touring in the UK and providing fun stories about her time on the sitcom. Needless to say, she was a favorite among the fans of the show.
According to The Guardian, Tewson passed away on Thursday, Aug. 18 at a London celebrity care home called Denville Hall. Her agent Jean Diamond provided a statement confirming the news.
Fans were quick to take to social media to share touching tributes to the late star, with many remembering her for her incredible acting skills and sharing videos of her portraying Liz in Keeping Up Appearances.
John Challis’ wife tweeted from his account to pay tribute to Tewson. Challis and Tewson acted together in the long-running sitcom Last of the Summer Wine, which aired on the BBC. Challis sadly passed away in 2021, and his wife Carol now keeps up with his account. See the sweet post below.
Tewson played Miss Davenport in Last of the Summer Wine from 2003 to 2010, making herself a staple on that show as well. She also memorably portrayed the role of Mrs. H in the sitcom Shelley alongside Hywel Bennett and Belinda Sinclair.
