* Spoilers for PLL: Original Sin finale below

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin arrived on HBO Max on July 28. The series brought with it teen drama, secrets, and a mysterious “A.” Even with all that, I don’t think the show was able to capture our attention like the original ABC series did.

The spin-off introduced us to a new set of liars: Bailee Madison as Imogen Adams, Chandler Kinney as Tabby Haworthe, Zaria as Faran Bryant, Malia Pyles as Minnie “Mouse” Honrada, and Maia Reficco as Noa Olivar.

Of course, as we guessed from the title, this time around the story mostly centered around “the original sin” and what that entailed. We find out the big secret is about the five girls’ mothers and how they bullied Angela Waters, leading to her suicide.

The finale of the HBO Max series basically tied up all the loose ends. So is a second season going to happen, and would it see a new set of characters?

Will a Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2 happen?

The streaming service has not confirmed whether the show has been renewed or cancelled. So now we just wait to see what the company will decide. However due to a merger with Discovery, there will be changes coming to the streamer.

Reportedly, HBO Max will be slowing down on scripted television shows as new leadership has taken over. Already there’s been many layoffs and cuts at the company due to the big change, according to Deadline. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but that definitely puts a show like Original Sin at risk.

Will Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin become an anthology series on HBO Max?

If a season 2 were to happen, co-creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine that he and fellow creator Lindsay Calhoon have “some preliminary ideas,” and a potential sophomore season would “definitely” follow the same girls. So that means an anthology series would not happen.

I don’t know what kind of plans and ideas they’re cooking up, but honestly a second season is so unnecessary. All the questions and mysteries we were following all season were tied up. The finale also ended in a way that felt like a series end. The only loose end left is that Archie escaped, but really who even cares at this point. I’m sorry to those who liked it, but the show as a whole was not intriguing and did not keep my interest at all. Hopefully we can all move on from this Pretty Little Liars spin-off.

The full season of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is now streaming on HBO Max.
