The Walking Dead has been one of the best dramas in cable history. While it may be coming to an end soon, we have not seen the last of the lone wolf heartthrob, Daryl Dixon. Initially, Norman Reedus was supposed to be staring in a spinoff about Daryl and his longtime best friend Carol (Melissa McBride). But now, Reedus will be getting his own series.

The beloved character will be heading east to a country he probably knows very little about. And we can’t wait to follow him in this new adventure!

Why is Daryl Dixon going to France in upcoming series?

That is the obvious question fans are asking. How does he even get there? Daryl has spent much of season 11 taking care of Rick’s kids and doing all that he can to ensure they have a better life. And a future. Is this the connection to Rick Grimes that fans are speculating?

We saw France mentioned in World Beyond. In the finale scene a french doctor was seen listening to old transmissions of Dr. Jenner in the end credit scenes. This could all be connected to Rick Grimes. Perhaps he was experimented on, perhaps he is involved in a much bigger world.

Daryl certainly is an interesting choice for this series. He is a ruthless and talented warrior who has become a strong leader. Leading very differently from Rick Grimes but still getting the job done. But can he help out in a scientific sense? Hopefully he has learned a thing or two from Eugene through the years.

Scott Gimple confirmed on The Walking Dead preview special that his spinoff would indeed be in France. We always knew that the location would be in Europe because of AMC’s statement of that being why Melissa McBride had to drop out of the series. Gimple also called it an obvious choice. Which still puzzles a lot of fans.

Scott also said that Daryl will be trying to find himself again. He will have to find himself once more because he’s not going to be comfortable in his own skin, in a new location with new people. Who knows what type of Daryl we may see.

Norman Reedus also admitted on Fallon that he will be looking people that are lost. And that he is sure everybody will meet up again. Including Daryl and Carol. His spinoff is set to start filming in September and air sometime in 2023. Scott Gimple did call Daryl and Carol the centerpiece of The Walking Dead. We will see if that reigns true still this upcoming year.

Do we really need another reinvented Daryl Dixon?

Back when Angela Kang was still the Show runner for the Daryl and Carol spinoff the ideas going forward were much different. Fans do still want to know what exactly happened. The turn of events has caused a lot of backlash on social media. The Daryl and Carol spinoff was set to be a road show at first. Where both characters are comfortable in their own skin. They were to travel and meet different people throughout their journey. And help them along the way.

I expect Daryl Dixon to carry the burden of the past on his shoulders still. Everyone they’ve lost, everyone he’s fought for. Deeply rooted in his heart will be the people he continues to fight for. However, Daryl Dixon has gone through so much growth as a character I feel it would be smarter for him to carry that on than to go back to square one again.

Regardless of how he gets to France and how he comes back, fans are really excited to get to see him reunite with Rick Grimes again. Who will also be coming back in 2023 with his own spinoff with Richonne. If Carol was left behind to take the care of the kids I expect to see both Daryl and Carol in that spinoff and have a great reunion. It’s been years in the making.
