Spoiler alert! If you missed the first two episodes of The Patient, please note there are spoilers ahead! While we don’t dive heavily into details, we do discuss theories that may spoil parts of the series.

The Patient theories: Who’s in the house with Alan?

It didn’t take long after Alan found himself being held hostage for the series to tease he is not alone. There are strange noises coming from upstairs (Alan is chained in the basement), and Alan can hear these noises after Sam leaves the house. By the end of the second episode, it’s confirmed that someone is in the house with Alan, but episode 2 leaves us hanging. What a cliffhanger! Fans now have to wait a whole week to learn who this mysterious person is, so let’s speculate!

Sam’s second victim

Is Alan Sam’s only victim in the house? He kidnapped Alan to get help, but is that truly his motive? Maybe there’s more here. Or, perhaps, Sam kidnapped someone else and needs Alan’s help in order to not kill this person.

Sam’s accomplice

Is Sam acting alone here? Could he have an accomplice upstairs making sure Alan doesn’t escape? Sam’s wife, mother, friend? Because, if it were a victim, why aren’t they trying to communicate with Alan? Why don’t they respond back?

The Patient episode 3, “Issues,” premieres on Hulu next Tuesday, Sept. 6. This episode will reveal who’s upstairs, but present new questions. Don’t miss it!
