Will New Amsterdam Season 5 have a time jump?
New Amsterdam Season 5 is one OG character down, but how will the series handle it? Will we go through the loss of Helen with Max?
Just as Sharpwin became a thing, we got the bad news. Helen Sharpe won’t return in New Amsterdam Season 5. It’s over for Max and Helen; at least, for the time being.
Now eyes are on the premiere. How will we see things play out? Where will we pick up? Could we pick straight back up with Max receiving the call from Helen to say that she didn’t get on the plane? This would mean dealing with that grieving process—and anyone who has ended a long relationship will know that it is a grieving process coming out of it.
Some shows skip over this process completely. We end up with a time jump of a year or so. For example, The Resident opted for a three-year time jump to avoid dealing with Conrad grieving the loss of Nic when Emily VanCamp’s character was killed off.
Will there be a time jump in New Amsterdam Season 5?
Will New Amsterdam opt for a time jump to handle Max’s grief? There is something like that. The show is going to do something similar to the Season 3 premiere, which saw a montage to get through some of the more difficult topics.
At the start of Season 3, New Amsterdam found a way to handle the pandemic storyline while using the superflu storylines that had been written and filmed ahead of the pandemic.
Showrunner David Schulner told TVLine that the series will see a montage to get us through the summer months. There is a small time jump, but it’s to get the show in line with the time period we’re in right now, so the series is going to pick up in fall 2022.
