Among the handful of impressive dramas nominated for Emmy Awards at this year’s ceremony includes Dopesick, the hard-hitting miniseries that debuted on Hulu in Oct. 2021. The eight-episode show features an ensemble cast lead by Michael Keaton, Peter Sarsgaard, Rosario Dawson, Kaitlyn Dever, and other familiar faces, following different timelines as the OxyContin epidemic begins in America.

The series is based on the book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America by Beth Macy, telling the real-life story about how Purdue Pharma tricked a nation into believing their drug was basically non-addictive. When doctors started subscribing it for just about any level of pain, it didn’t take long for users to become hooked. This story is absolutely heartbreaking and deserves to be heard.

Dopesick has received over a dozen nominations at the 2022 Emmys, which just took place on Sept. 12 on NBC. Almost every starring actor was in the running for awards, and the show was also up for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

Dopesick Emmy wins

When the Primetime Emmy Awards first started on Monday night, Dopesick took home the first award! The series is now a two-time Emmy Award winner. The first award came at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys. That ceremony took place on Sept. 3, and Dopesick went home with the following award:

  • Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie – Dopesick‘s Checco Varese, the Director of Photography

At the Primetime Emmy Awards, airing right now, Dopesick won:

  • Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie – Michael Keaton

Keaton, who plays a doctor-turned-addict named Samuel Finnix, was a major frontrunner for the award ahead of the ceremony. We were really hoping he gets it! He sure gave an incredible performance.

To catch up on Dopesick, you can watch all eight episodes right now on Hulu. And don’t miss the Emmy Awards tonight on NBC or Peacock.
