Why isn’t Days of Our Lives on NBC anymore? (Where to watch Days)

After 57 years, you’ll no longer find new episodes of Days of Our Lives on NBC. On Friday, Sept. 9, NBC aired its final new episode of its long-running scripted daytime drama.

Beginning Sept. 12, NBC is turning over Days‘ long-time timeslot to NBC News Daily, a brand new daily news program from NBC News that will provide viewers with world-class reporting and breaking news coverage. Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist, Vicky Nguyen and Morgan Radford have been tapped to provide viewers with up-to-the-minute national and international news, with some local regions dropping in some local news segments as well.

It’s one of the biggest moves NBC has made to its daytime lineup in decades and brings with it the end of an era in daytime programming now that Days‘ time on NBC has come to a close. So why in the world has NBC opted to remove Days of Our Lives from its programming slate?

What happened to Days of Our Lives?

As daytime TV continues to evolve, NBC has made the decision to remove Days of Our Lives from its broadcast schedule and make the series a streaming original. While disappointing for long-time fans who have been watching the series for years on their local NBC affiliates, the decision to move Days from NBC to Peacock was made in an effort to strengthen engagement with viewers.

According to Mark Lazarus, Chairman, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, the decision to move Days to a digital platform was due to the fact that a large percentage of the show’s viewership now comes via streaming.

"“This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers,” Lazarus explained when announcing the decision. “With a large percentage of the ‘Days of Our Lives’ audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.”"

Where can you watch Days of Our Lives? (2022)

As of Sept. 12, 2022, Days of Our Lives will stream exclusively on Peacock. If you’re hoping to continue to keep up with the latest happenings in Salem, Massachusetts, you’ll need to subscribe to a Peacock Premium or Peacock Plus account.

While the series will have a new home, the good news is that Days will continue to release new episodes every weekday. Additionally, fans will no longer need to worry about setting their DVR as they’ll be able to stream the episodes — as well as all of the show’s previous episodes — on Peacock.

Plus, those who stream for Peacock Plus will no longer have to deal with watching commercials, which is another win in our books!
