Emmy winners: Who won Emmys 2022

The winner(s) take all! Last night, the 2022 Emmy Awards were broadcast on NBC and simultaneously streamed live on Peacock. Kenan Thompson served as host with other celebrity award presenters for the night.

The night was filled with laughs, surprises, and so much excitement as predictions for winners started incredibly early after shows like Succession, Ted Lasso, and The White Lotus had spectators anxiously awaiting the results after nominations went out.

For those who either caught the tail end of the ceremony or just want to see who won, below are highlights of this year’s Emmy Awards ceremony.

Emmys 2022 winners

The satirical drama Succession, which is currently filming its fourth season, took home the Emmy for Outstanding Drama. Michael Keaton won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role in the Hulu drama Dopesick

Zendaya, who stars as Rue Bennett in the hit HBO teen-drama Euphoria, won the Lead Actress in a Drama Series award. She is the first Black woman to win an Emmy in this category twice and the youngest two-time winner of any Emmy in history.

Matthew McFayden won an Emmy for Oustanding Supporting Actor for his performance in Succession. Netflix’s Squid Game won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. One of the lead actors, Lee Jung-jae also made history as the first Asian man to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama.

The White Lotus held strong as the winner of the Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Amanda Seyfried won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for Hulu’s The Dropout.

Jean Smart took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on HBO Max’s Hacks. Julia Garner followed with her Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role on Netflix’s Ozark. 

Sheryl Lee Ralph took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in ABC’s Abbott Elementary. This win marks her first Emmy and makes Ralph the second Black woman to win this category in its history. The first was Jackée Harry in 1987 for the role of Sandra Clarke on 227.

Ted Lasso, which is heading into its third seasonwas awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Show for the seventh consecutive time, totaling seventeen Emmy wins for the late night show since its inception.

Saturday Night Live beat out its only opponent, HBO’s Black Lady Sketch Show to win the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

Some other takeaways include:

  • HBO won the most awards of any TV network with 34 awards
  • Netflix followed closely with 26 wins
  • Succession came into the night with 25 total award nominations
  • Ted Lasso won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy for the second time in a row
