The first two episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 are out, and they brought us some shocking twists and turns. Who was the girl at the end?

Caution: There are spoilers from the first two episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 in this post.

After a long wait, The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 has finally started. The first two episodes have dropped on Hulu, and we couldn’t wait to get stuck into them. They certainly took us on a roller coaster of emotions as usual.

For June, things all started with her looking to turn herself in. In fact, she did. She confessed to Fred’s murder, and she wanted to pay the price for her actions. The murder took place on No Man’s Land, though. It means she gets to walk free.

Serena Joy isn’t happy about that. With her getting Fred’s finger, she knows that June did it. So, when she heads to Gilead for a state funeral for her husband, she was always going to find a way to get under June’s skin.

Serena Joy attends the funeral in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5

The very end of the episodes sees Serena Joy in the state funeral procession. That was expected, and it’s not all that surprising that the funeral is being televised in Canada. There are people loyal to Gilead in there, and this is a major event in the country.

Serena Joy knew it would be televised. She was always going to use it to her advantage to annoy June. What better way than to use June’s daughter?

There’s a little girl who walks up to Serena Joy with flowers. The camera then focuses on her, and it’s clear who she is. That’s Hannah, June and Luke’s daughter who is still trapped in Gilead.

The last we saw of Hannah, she was in a box while Aunt Lydia found a way to get June to give up the location of the Handmaids. Joseph Lawrence knew that Hannah would do the trick, and he also made it clear that Gilead would kill Hannah just to get at June. While children are precious, they’re not all that safe.

Well, it looks like Serena Joy is going to keep Hannah safe if only to torment June and Luke. This is about to bring the parents to Gilead to finally save their daughter, though, right?
