We’re back in the ballroom for Dancing With The Stars Season 31, and with the series moving to Disney+ for 2022, there are several big changes that we believe positively affect the show. Here’s what’s new and how one major change makes live voting more inclusive for audiences.

In the past, the series had to strictly follow a 2-hour runtime with a 10-act structure and many commercial breaks. The commercial breaks allowed for set changes, stage sweeps, and camera resets, but with the move to Disney+, executive producers confirmed that the show will have no commercials and some wiggle room with the run time — which means more content for fans and the addition of a 16th couple.

The Sky Box is also returning for Dancing With The Stars Season 31, with couples being able to hang out together during the show and be a more cohesive cheering section. Tyra Banks will be joined by a co-host, Alfonso Ribeiro, who will often be hosting from the Sky Box and interviewing dancers between routines.

But one of the best changes for fans is that voting has been expanded and is now more inclusive across the United States and Canada, no matter what time zone you live in. “It’s live live live across the whole country,” executive producer Conrad Green told Entertainment Weekly. “You can tune in at five o’clock in LA, you can tune in at 8 o’clock in New York.” He also confirmed that Canada residents are able to vote as well. “It’s a much broader base. And I think it will help audiences feel engaged with the show,” he said.

How can I vote for Dancing With The Stars on the West Coast?

In the past, everyone in the US was able to send in votes, but only residents on the East Coast and in Central Time zones could watch the dances live as they voted. Now with the move to Disney+, residents of all US and Canada time zones can vote while they watch Dancing With The Stars Season 31 live simultaneously.

If you live on the West Coast, be sure to start watching at 5pm PT on Disney+, and you’ll be able to see instructions during the broadcast for how to vote for your favorite couple on the show. You’ll be able to vote via text message or via the Disney+ website, similar to past seasons.
