It all begins with Halloween, a favorite time of year for those of the kooky, spooky and/or ooky variety. And what better, time honored tradition is there than revisiting the staple films that define the culture of modern Halloween?

The 90’s Features

Let’s start with Charles Addams’ creations first leaps into the silver screen, The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values. Arguably, these films are what started the Addams Family’s position as cultural icons of the highest caliber.

It helps a great deal when your movies get guaranteed rewatches annually. Not only that, but who can forget such fun-packed moments like The Mamushka and the reenactment of the First Thanksgiving.

Currently, The Addams Family and Addams Family Values can be enjoyed via a Paramount+ subscription. Those with a premium subscription for Amazon Prime and Roku Channel can also stream it. And finally, if you’re only interested in the Addams and nothing else, the early 90’s films can be purchased on Youtube, Google Play, and Apple TV.

Addams Back in Animation

With the success and enduring popularity of the first two films, it was no surprise, in this day and age of nostalgia and reboots, that the Addams Family would eventually see new installments in their theatrical line up. These came in the form of the The Addams Family (2019) and The Addams Family 2 (2021), returning the familiar characters to their cartoon form, with designs inspired more or less directly from the original Charles Addams magazine cartoons.

The first in this animated film series, The Addams Family (2019), can be found on Prime Video with a subscription and is available for purchase on Youtube, Google Play, and Apple TV. Additionally, I might advise you to check your TV listing, as Nickelodeon seems to have several airings of the movie throughout October.

As for the sequel, The Addams Family 2 (2021), it’s not available through cable, but streaming offers more options. It can be found with an ordinary subscription to Prime or Paramount+, and a Premium subscription to Roku and Philo. Hey, it’s a wide market.
