By Tiara Starks
Hocus Pocus fans, hold on to your broomsticks! Hocus Pocus 2 is arriving Sep. 30 to streaming service Disney+. The upcoming kids-fantasy movie is directed by Anne Fletcher and brings back the original witch trio, the Sanderson Sisters, who are portrayed by actresses Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. The second film in the franchise is about “three young women who accidentally release the Sanderson Sisters back into modern day Salem. With the witches out for revenge, the girls must figure out a way to stop them before it’s too late.”
The previously put-to-sleep sequel will not only reintroduce the aforementioned leads, but also a new cauldron of characters, including Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Frey Guiterrez (Cruel Summer), Lilia Buckingham, Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), and Tony Hale (The Mysterious Benedict Society).
While this beloved kids fantasy movie is widely well-known and highly-anticipated, is it appropriate enough for the kid movie-viewers of today to watch? Let’s find out!
Why is Hocus Pocus 2 rated PG?
The MPAA attributes the PG rating to the movie because of its inclusion of action, macabre and suggestive humor and some language. A PG rating means that kids under 17 can watch with a parent or guardian. It is not recommended that children under the age of 5 watch this movie as there are scary images and crass language.
The original Hocus Pocus, which was released in 1993, also had a MPAA rating of PG. Some parental reviews of the movie perceive it as a PG-13 film. Hocus Pocus is also available for streaming right now on Disney+ as well. The movie is known for its themed storyline, so in addition to wondering if your kids should view it, consider viewing it with others during Halloween to get into the spirit of the film. Without unintentionally spoiling anything from the movie’s intended storyline, expect to see scenes similar to the original as well as some spooky surprises along the way.
