Sitcoms moving away from celebrating holidays was one of the most heartbreaking things to ever happen to broadcast TV. But thankfully, Abbott Elementary is determined to get things back to the way they used to be.

Showrunners Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker sat with TV Line to discuss what’s in store for the sophomore season of the ABC series. There, they confirmed that the comedy does, indeed, have a special Halloween episode in store for fans.

“I’m so excited for people to see our Halloween episode. I think it’s one of the best things we’ve ever done,” Halpern expressed. “When I think about it, I’m like, ‘Oh, man, people are going to lose their mind about this.’”

“I did not envy our director, Shahrzad Davani, on that episode,” Schumacker shared. “It was such a puzzle putting it together with, obviously, everybody in crazy costumes. And there’s more action than one might expect.”

Based on Halpern and Schumacker’s reactions, we can tell that this episode is probably going to be jam-packed with all sorts of things. Whether it’s Janine (Quinta Brunson) and Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams) wearing the silliest costumes to ever exist or Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) pulling a prank on his fellow Abbott Elementary‘s Halloween episode can go in any direction.

However, we’ll have to wait until the episode releases to know for sure.

When will Abbott Elementary’s Halloween episode release?

TV Line didn’t confirm the release date for this special Halloween episode. But if we had to guess, we would assume that the episode will premiere either the week of Halloween (Wednesday, Nov. 3) or the week before the holiday (Wednesday, Oct. 27).

It’s also possible that the ABC title may decide to release the episode on Halloween to mix things up, but we just have to wait and see what the network decides to do.

Hopefully, Abbott Elementary doesn’t just stop at Halloween, as we would love to see this extraordinary show have many more holiday specials, including a Christmas episode. (Imagine we get to see Janine and Gregory share a kiss under the mistletoe!)

Here’s to hoping that the ABC comedy continues to put sitcoms on the right track!
