Smile movie rating: Is the movie for kids?
By Tiara Starks
Did you see what I just saw? The wait is over as the Paramount Pictures horror film Smile just started its domestic theatrical release. Not only has this movie been highly anticipated, it also joins the continuous slate of horror movies that are being released in the latter part of 2022.
The film has garnered attention due to its viral marketing tactics such as placing smiling people in the background of sporting events and even The Today Show. Due to the film’s social awareness, this could lead to more in-theater viewership. With a cast led by Sosie Bacon (As We See It), Kyle Gallner (Scream 5), Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), Caitlyn Stasey (Fantasy Island), and Rob Morgan (Don’t Look Up), now is your opportunity to find out what everyone is smiling about.
According to IMDB, the premise of the movie is as follows:
"After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she cannot explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality."
Judging from the film’s premise, it’s definitely a horror film that is meant to get under your skin whether your sitting with others in-theaters or in the comfort of your own home. That being said, Horror movies tend to be targeted toward adult audiences with very few exceptions so will this movie be worthy of the attention of young viewers? Let’s find out.
Why is the movie Smile rated R?
Don’t let that smile fool you. Kids younger than 17 should go to the theater with an adult to see this movie. The MPAA has attached an R rating to the movie Smile for strong violent content, grisly images, and language which means this is not a horror movie that you want your kids to see alone. This movie includes a ton of frightening and intense scenes. Unless your kids are used to viewing such movies, you might want to go solo with a group of older friends to watch this film.
