The Good Doctor Season 6 begins tonight, and it’s time to get answers about Dr. Lim. How long will we get with the characters this season?

It is all hands on deck tonight when it comes to saving Dr. Lim. Shaun and Lea’s wedding is cut short with the threat in the hospital and the need to save one of their own. This is just the start of another exciting season, but how long do we get with the characters this year?

Knowing the episode counts ahead of time can relieve a lot of stress. We get an idea of what the breaks in the schedule are going to look like and a rough idea of when the finale will air. We also get to know how long the show will have to tell stories.

The Good Doctor Season 6 episode count

So, what are we looking at for the season? usually, the broadcast networks don’t tell us the lengths of the season so early on. However, ABC has confirmed The Good Doctor Season 6’s length. TVLine reports that it will have 22 episodes.

This is definitely longer than we’re used to. The first couple of seasons had just 18 episodes, which matched Freddie Highmore’s contract. Then the next two seasons were upped to 20 episodes, which was managed even with the pandemic years. Season 5 only had 18 episodes, again. Based on the way the first two episodes of this season are numbered on the ABC press site, it looks like there was an initial plan to have 20 episodes but there were filming delays. (The episodes are numbered 519 and 520 instead of 601 and 602.)

That then makes sense why this season will have 22 episodes. It looks like the plan was to have 20 episodes, but the two episodes from last season that couldn’t air will be added onto this season, bringing us to what is normally a full season for broadcast networks.
