Bob’s Burgers continues to be an inventive example of the evolution of animated TV shows. Now in season 13, the show continues to change the game regarding storylines in particular.

If you’ve been a fan of Bob’s Burgers since the beginning, you’ll know the unlikely origin of the series. If you haven’t been here, no worries. The show was initially imagined as a restaurant run by a family of cannibals that served human meat.

If you’ve watched the series premiere, you’ll know how the premise was reworked. Despite the changes, we’ve watched a lot of different storylines play out including some related to space and the planets.

However, season 13’s “Comet-y of Errors” could usurp them all so be sure you’re caught up as there will be spoilers from this point on.

Bob’s Burgers recap: “Comet-y of Errors”

“Comet-y of Errors” starts with Bob feeling nervous about getting new counters in the restaurant until Teddy comes in, discussing Kirby’s comet. He immediately gets the kids intrigued by talking about how you can make a wish so Bob and Linda end up deciding to take them to see the comet.

The kids start to feel nervous about not being pure-hearted while Teddy meets up with Bob and Linda. He won’t stop talking about how the comet will give him a sign for the next thirty years which Bob doesn’t believe until he agrees to help because of Linda.

Tina goes out, trying to apologize to everyone but Tammy tries to sabotage her by making Tina do things rather than accept her apology while Gene and Louise try to steal wish paper to have more wishes.

Despite Teddy trying his best, things go awry with him, causing him to believe he’s going to be cursed and so is Bob. Bob continues to try and make Teddy feel better, but Teddy is ready to give up while Louise and Gene write tons of wishes and Tina keeps getting wrapped up in Tammy’s hijinks. Teddy decides to go into the water to “cleanse himself” so Bob is forced to go in and get him.

Bob decides to confront Teddy and tells him that his life isn’t bad because of the comet, it’s because of his decisions and what life hands him. Eventually, Tammy apologized to Tina for being a jerk, Bob gets a sign of his own, and Tina saves the day for Louise and Gene. The episode ends with Bob realizing he was wrong and reassuring Teddy about his sign.

“A Comet-y of Errors” is the perfect episode title

When looking at Bob’s Burgers, sometimes the episode titles don’t make sense, but that couldn’t be further from the truth for “A Comet-y of Errors.” The episode is essentially full of errors for the entire Belcher family including Teddy. Eventually, things do work out for everyone but it’s only after the comet appeared and not a moment sooner.

While the title probably wasn’t meant to be taken literally, it was so spot-on and it gave the episode such a satisfying conclusion. For once, it was nice to see Bob eat his words and give Teddy the benefit of the doubt. All in all, the other three “storylines” felt a bit underdeveloped and it would have been nice to see Teddy and Bob’s friendship take center stage.

Regardless, the episode was undeniably brilliant with the title coming full circle and the Belchers all getting some magic from the comet. While “A Comet-y of Errors” might not be remembered as well or beloved as other episodes, it stands out to me as one of the most literal adaptations the show has done yet.

Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays on Fox at 9/8c.
