How many Pirates of the Caribbean movies are there?

As of October 2022, there are five films in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. A short film was also produced as a part of the series.

In order, the movies are:

  • Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

The short film, Tales of the Code: Wedlocked, serves as a prequel to the inaugural movie. The plotline reveals why Jack Sparrow’s boat was seen sinking in the franchise’s first film.

All five of the productions are now streaming on Disney+. The only film you won’t find is the short, which was released as part of the home-video release of On Stranger Tides. So unless you have that DVD, unfortunately you won’t be able to watch Tales of the Code: Wedlocked anywhere online.

* UPDATE on 11/14/22: According to Variety, Margot Robbie announced her Pirates movie is no longer in the works at Disney.

Years ago, fans of the swashbuckling series were told a sixth installment was in the works and we could expect another chapter in the story. Since 2020, we haven’t gotten many updates about the sixth production. But supposedly, it’s still in the works and will be a follow-up to Dead Men Tell No Tales, according to Collider.

Another Pirates project that hasn’t gotten any updates, but is still supposedly in the works is a spin-off film starring Margot Robbie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this movie will be completely separate from the rest of the franchise films, with a whole new story and characters.

All five of the Pirates of the Caribbean films can be streamed on Disney+
