The Netflix shows missing from the streamer’s ad-tier and why

Netflix‘s ad-tier is now available for subscribers who don’t want to pay from $9.99-19.99 for no ads on the streamer.

For the economic price of $6.99/month, those on the basic plan with ads can watch movies and TV shows on the platform on one supported device at a time in HD quality. Subscribers also still have access to unlimited mobile gaming without ads under this plan.

However, the lowest pay tier on Netflix does come with the drawback of not having access to all of the streamer’s catalogue. This is largely due to licensing issues. Not all of the streamer’s original series are owned by them but rather licensed from the production companies and distributors that developed and created these titles.

As such, some content is locked on the platform for subscribers under the basic with ads plan. Deadline reports, “Netflix executives had already indicated that about 5% to 10% of programming would be missing from the Basic With Ads tier at launch,” but that doesn’t mean this content will always be locked.

The outlet did mention that the move to the ad-tier has required Netflix to obtain rights and revise contracts when it comes to the media available on the streamer. This has been a months-long process and it’s likely ongoing so the shows (and movies) missing from this tier could become available in time.
