Matthew Perry reveals the actor he wants to play him in a movie of his memoir
All eyes are on Friends star Matthew Perry after the release of his tell-all memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, which hit bookshelves on Nov. 1. In the book, the 53-year-old actor opens up on all things fame, his failed romances, and his struggle with addiction. While many fans have praised Perry for being so vulnerable and open, others think he might’ve said too much. (Especially when shading other actors.)
Despite any criticisms, we’re sure this memoir will prove extremely successful for Perry. Looking ahead, could we even get a movie adaptation of the book, which would chronicle the actor’s life? Well, nothing has been announced yet, but it looks like Perry knows which celebrity he’d want to play him if that were to ever happen.
Matthew Perry would want Zac Efron to play him in a movie of his life
During a live conversation at the Town Hall in New York City on Wednesday evening, Perry spoke about his book and answered some questions. According to Yahoo! News, when asked if he had someone in mind to play him if the memoir ever comes to the big screen, Perry said: “Well, Zac Efron did it once,” referring to the 2009 movie 17 Again.
Perry continued by explaining how he sees it: “I would play me after the coma and after that horrible night, five months in the hospital, then I would take over the role, I guess.”
It looks like Perry and Efron really did hit it off on the set of 17 Again, because during a recent interview on SiriusXM’s Pop Culture Spotlight With Jessica Shaw, the Friends star revealed he even offered Efron a part in a romantic comedy he’s written. Unfortunately, the Neighbors actor turned him down. Perry says they’re now looking for the cast, and teased he almost got Aubrey Plaza to sign on.
I suppose we’ll see what’s in the cards for a potential movie adaptation of Perry’s memoir. He’s certainly got everyone talking with his reveals, so a studio might be looking to snatch up the story.
