Will Prime Video’s Red One premiere in time for Christmas 2022?

When you hear the title Red One, it doesn’t really sound like a Christmas movie does it? Well, it actually is! Prime Video has officially green-lit the project, which is actually an action-adventure holiday film. Now that has definitely piqued our interest! Will it be out this season?

Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons is taking on the very important role of Santa Cluas, with Emmy nominee Bonnie Hunt as Mrs. Claus, Deadline reports. The Dwayne Johnson-led film (Johnson leads onscreen and as a producer) also stars Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Wesley Kimmel. Talk about a stellar cast!

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is supposed to be a “globe-trotting” adventure that has mythological elements. Some inspiration and the tone of the production has been taken from Guardians of the Galaxy, Collider reports. How all of that is going to be spun into a Christmas movie, we’ll just have to wait and see!

The new holiday movie will not arrive in time for Christmas 2022. The cameras have just started rolling, with production just getting underway, according to Deadline. The film is even still just announcing some casting news.

Though to tide us over, the official Prime Video Twitter account has shared a first-look image with Johnson and Evans. We don’t have an exact release date yet, but the goal is to have the film ready for audiences at some point during the 2023 holiday season, according to Collider! And work won’t just be done on one movie. The plan is to create a franchise, with a total of four films.
