What is Red One starring Dwayne Johnson about?

A new holiday film with a twist is coming our way in 2023! Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson, is now in the works at Prime Video!

The movie has started production, Deadline reports, and has a whole list of cast members joining Johnson onscreen. J.K Simmons will play Santa, with Bonnie Hunt playing his wife Mrs. Claus.

Also a part of the cast are Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Wesley Kimmel, Deadline shares. The news outlet reports Jake Kasdan serves as director, Chris Morgan wrote the screenplay, and Hiram Garcia thought up the original story.

The plan is for this production to be the first in a franchise, which will consist of four holiday family films. So what can we expect to see in the upcoming movie?

There aren’t any plot details that have been shared yet. Prime Video is staying tight-lipped on that information for now. What we do know is that it will be an action-adventure Christmas film!

According to Collider, Garcia said the movie will be a “globe-trotting” story with a tone similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy with mythological elements. Producers on the project include Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia, Sky Salem, Melvin Mar, Johnson, Kadan, and Morgan, according to Deadline. Ainsley Davies serves as executive producer.

Johnson’s most recent work has been the newly released Black Adam. “The Rock” takes on the titular DC superhero role. The movie is currently in cinemas and expected to stream at some point on HBO Max. And fun fact – Hiram Garcia also produced the superhero film!
