Why is Welcome to Chippendales rated TV-MA?
By Tiara Starks
Uncover your eyes and get ready to see the truth behind the infamous striptease troupe! The Hulu biographical-drama series, Welcome to Chippendales just hit the platform.
The series is based on the book Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders by K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca. It is a stripped-down yet dramatized version of Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee’s story.
Bannerjee is the founder of the well-known touring dance troupe, the Chippendales. The troupe’s origin has a darker history than one might image and this series is tasked with unfolding those previously-concealed secrets.
The series stars Kumail Nanjiani as Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee, Murray Bartlett as Nick De Noia, Annaleigh Ashford as Irene, Dan Stevens as Paul Snider, and Juliette Lewis as Denise. With the show being geared towards those familiar with the book as well as the troupe itself, it’s safe to say that this show isn’t suitable for young children. If you want a deeper reason as to why that is, read on to found out more!
Why is Welcome to Chippendales rated TV-MA?
The MPAA gives Welcome to Chippendales a rating of TV-MA. How so? It means that this program contains one or more of the following: graphic violence, sexual activity, or crude and indecent language/humor.
This is definitely an appropriate rating as it is highly recommended that children under the age of 17 not watch this program. The sexual proclivity of the main characters is part of the reason as well. Even if your child is “of-age” to watch this show, take some time to let them know the backstory of what Chippendales is and the troupe’s impact on culture today.
