How long has the National Dog Show been televised?
Time to get into your comfy clothes, because Thanksgiving is here and we have so much food to eat and television to watch! While you prep the turkey and start peeling some potatoes, there’s no doubt you’ll need some entertainment to play in the background today.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade starts soon at 9:00 a.m. ET, and after that, there’s a marathon of other televised events to watch. One of these includes the National Dog Show, taking place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania.
About 2,000 dogs will compete for the grand prize at the 2022 National Dog Show, and I cannot wait to see all the cutest and most beautiful breeds the dog owners and handlers have to offer. While many might be excited to watch the NFL games all day today starting at 12:30 p.m. ET, I’d rather geek out over dogs! Fortunately, the National Dog Show will be televised on both NBC and Peacock, starting at noon ET.
While we get ready to see all the awesome dogs, you might be wondering how long this annual event has been going on. And has it always been televised? I honestly can’t remember a year when I didn’t watch the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving!
How long has the National Dog Show been on TV?
The first-ever National Dog Show took place in 1879 when it was called the Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Show. According to Dayton.com, NBC then rebranded it as the name we know today and has been broadcasting the show since 2002.
As reported by People Magazine, winners of the National Dog Show over the years include breeds like the Standard Poodle, the Bull Terrier, the Pointer, the Bloodhound, and many more.
For the past two years, a Scottish Deerhound named Claire was crowned the winner of the National Dog Show. We cannot wait to see the results of this year’s event later this afternoon! The show is expected to air from 12:00 p.m. ET to 2:00 p.m. ET.
