We all know Thanksgiving is filled with the three F’s, family, food, and football. If you aren’t doing all three of these things, you aren’t doing the holiday right. So today, I share with you all the NFL games that are being played with their kick-off times so you don’t miss a single moment of football.

The first NFL game to be played on Thanksgiving dates back to 1920. That game saw the Canton Bulldogs take on The Akron Pros, which the Pros ended up winning 7-0. Two of the staples of the Thanksgiving football games have been the Detroit Lions (1934) and the Dallas Cowboys (1966).

Those two teams were always a staple during the holiday games until 2006. After that, the NFL decided to make it a triple header but doesn’t have one specific team, although the Bills have hosted three of the last four years.

What NFL teams play today?

Buffalo Bills vs. Detroit Lions

Start time – 12:30 p.m. ET (CBS)

In the first game, we have two teams coming off big wins, with the Buffalo Bills taking on the Detroit Lions. The Bills are 7-3 on the season with recently taking down the Cleveland Browns, and are looking to keep track atop of the AFC East. They are currently tied with the Dolphins for first place, with the Patriots and Jets only one game back. So a win for them is vital if they want to attempt to win the division.

The Detroit Lions are coming off a big upset against the New York Giants, which moved them to 4-6 and second place in the NFC North. As crazy as it might sound, even at 4-6, the Lions are only two games back from a playoff spot, so it is a must-win game for them.

New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys

Start time – 4:30 p.m. ET (FOX)

The Dallas Cowboys are fresh off beating the Minnesota Vikings in a blowout win that moved the team to 7-3. They currently sit two games behind the Eagles for the division lead and are tied with the team they are taking on, the New York Giants, for second place and in the 5th spot for the Wild Card.

The New York Giants are coming into the game after a devastating loss to the Lions and need a win against the Cowboys to stay the course for the NFC East and the NFC playoff race. Both teams need the win, and whoever prevails could have a leg up when it comes to tiebreakers at the season’s end.

New England Patriots vs. Minnesota Vikings

Start time – 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC)

In another massive match-up with many playoff implications, we have the Vikings coming off a huge loss to the Cowboys, taking on the Patriots who are fresh off beating the Jets.

The Vikings still have a four-game lead in the NFC North but now are one game back behind the Eagles for the one seed and that much-coveted first-round bye. It’s not exactly a must-win for the Vikings, but a bounce-back would be huge for their momentum and the seeding of the playoffs.

The Patriots currently sit one game out of first place in the AFC East and are slotted into the 6th seed of the Wild Card. The Patriots swept the season series against the Jets after beating them 10-3 on Sunday. However, if they want to extend their win streak to four, they must do it against a tough Vikings team. Their defense has been good all year, but to beat the Vikings, they will have to score points which hasn’t been something they have done with ease. This is a tough must-win game for both teams.
