Who won The Big Brunch on HBO Max?

Since Thursday, Nov. 10, HBO Max subscribers who’ve been tuning into the freshman season of The Big Brunch, have been treated to a heartwarming and mouth watering cooking competition with talented chefs on a mission to win the 300,000 dollar grand prize.

Created and hosted by Dan Levy, the series has showcased the skills of the contestants whilst also endearing them to the audience through their back stories and dreams for their businesses. The judges, which include Levy, have also been a source of laughter and comfort, guiding the chefs to improve and bring their best to every challenge.

With Levy, chef Sohla El-Waylly and restaurateur Will Guidara’s support, the 10 contestants gave it their all. However, nearly each episode saw a chef being cut from the competition until finally only three were left:

• Danielle Sespy – The Founder and Chef of The Hungry Gnome, a New York-based wholesale and online bakery that also caters.
• Chef J Chong –  Based in Asheville, NC, Chong brings a traditional Cantonese food and culinary experience to the region through pop-ups.
• Chef Daniel Harthausen – Owner and Chef of Young Mother, a pop-up restaurant based in Richmond, VA.

Who won The Big Brunch?

After presenting their three courses/items and their business plans to the judges, Daniel Harthausen was declared the winner. Though it was a risk to bet on the 26 year old whose business isn’t as tested and proven as Sespy’s, the judges decided they wanted to bet on the chef transforming his pop-up to a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Richmond, VA.

J Chong’s dishes had been extraordinary throughout the competition, but she’d just begun to conceptualize where she wanted to take her business in the finale when she was tasked with creating a plan for the $300,000 investment.

Sespy’s plan was sound and spoke to how she’d expand her business to meet the new demand of production once she transitioned to selling frozen baked goods nationwide. But, ultimately, as much as Levy, El-Waylly, and Guidara believed in her business, they wanted to invest in Young Mother, due to its unique and exciting lane.
