Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 2 recap: The cases are connected
Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 2, “Sicarius,” had the team looking into a case that JJ had been working. Two men were found with severed spinal cords and evidence showed they were part of dating sites that dealt with particular kinks.
In this case, the victims were involved in cuckolding, which is when married men get aroused over their wives having sex with other men. It was unknown at the time who was doing the murders, but it seemed like it might be the work of someone who used to do this.
Even though Garcia was adamant about not doing work for the BAU, she was fed links to coordinates from someone who appeared to know how her forum was hacked in the previous case. She eventually gave the information to Rossi while trying to show him that she’s there for him in his time of need.
For some reason, the person who gave her the information was not happy that Garcia went to the FBI. Realizing something more was going on, Garcia went back to her old office with Rossi, where she was able to encrypt the codes that were provided to her.
Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 2 finds the cases connected
The links provided turn out to be coordinates connected to their main Unsub. They realized, after a phone call from Tara, that the links show the locations of their Unsub’s kill kits. Whoever is organizing this serial killer network has kits all over the country. Plus, having received video of their victim before his spinal cord was severed, a pan around the room showed he also has a kill kit.
When the person they were searching for in their current case became impatient after being told to wait between kills, he disobeyed “the rules” and abducted a woman he had been communicating with. Her husband was able to lead them to a man named Robert Harris, who had been injured in a motorcycle accident.
JJ and Luke were able to rescue their victim, but Robert had killed himself. With their first Unsub, Rory Gilcrest, doing the same thing, they realized that this must be a deal with the leader in order to make sure he isn’t caught. They can’t question their Unsubs and find the mysterious man.
Of course, the one thing we know of most serial killers is they have families to make them seem normal. This is the case for our leader, played by Zach Gilford, who goes home to his wife after purchasing things he needs after his footlocker was taken in.
We also got to find out that Tara Lewis is in a budding relationship with a woman named Rebecca from the DOJ. We’re thrilled someone on this team appears to be happy!
Rebecca is also an asset to the team, letting them in on why their Deputy Director, Doug Bailey, is set to destroy the BAU. He’s looking into rising in the ranks and is focusing on domestic terrorism. He doesn’t feel serial killers are a focus and is determined to reassign Tara, Luke, and JJ, while replacing Emily and sending Rossi into retirement.
Determined not to let that happen, the team focuses on finding their main Unsub, the serial killer network leader. Because of the multiple Unsubs involved all over the country, it can be considered domestic terrorism.
While as exciting as this is, we have to wonder why the higher ups are always trying to destroy the BAU. After a while, you’d think they would realize this team is untouchable. At least they have Garcia back on the case!
