When All American: Homecoming began, the big romantic question of the series was whether or not Simone Hicks and Damon Sims would get together. Sparks flew between the two in the backdoor pilot for the college drama and they didn’t go out once the ball got rolling on their show.

However, Simone was in a relationship for the majority of the first season and by the time she wasn’t, Damon had moved on with her rival, Thea Mays. The tennis star has had an antagonistic relationship with the show’s lead since the beginning and the situation only worsened when Thea sustained an injury while using Simone’s tennis racket.

Said injury followed Thea into season 2 and has been a source of anxiety for her. While the healing process has had setbacks, she’s been making strides but it hasn’t been fast enough to secure her position on the team as a top player. When Coach Loni tried to talk to Thea about getting red shirted, the athlete wouldn’t hear of it.

Deciding to take control of her life, she made a decision in the fall finale that has affected her relationship with Damon negatively. Here’s what happened.

Do Damon and Thea break up in All American: Homecoming?

Thea broke up with Damon in episode 7, “Integrity.” She said it was because she’d begun to lose herself in their relationship. For Thea, tennis has held the number one spot in her life until she opened her life and heart to the community she’s formed at Bringston.

The problem, however, is that she now sees her romance with Damon as a distraction. In Thea’s mind, had she been focusing on her tennis career, her coach would have never considered benching her for the whole season. While she knows taking cortisone shots wasn’t the best move, it’s a decision she made to help her chance of getting back on the court.

When Damon referred to them as a “we” when it came to making choices concerning her body and what’s best for her, Thea shut that line of thinking down. Though the two are in love, Thea needs a break from their relationship. Earlier in the episode, Damon had noted that she wasn’t acting like herself and in the middle of parting ways, Thea agreed.

She isn’t someone who’s ever let anyone distract her from her tennis goals and dreams. Her interactions with Damon’s ex-girlfriend weren’t like her either. Nor were her feelings of inadequacy and moving faster than she initially intended with Damon. As such, Thea chose not to slow down but to put the brakes on, full stop.

We’ll have to wait and see how long this break-up will last, but it’s clear these two aren’t on the same page despite loving one another.
