Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 3, “Moose,” continued its arc with the serial killer network as the team tried to get one step ahead of their Unsub. Plus, we also got to learn more about Elias Voit and his difficulty in controlling his urge to kill.

He may be the leader of a serial killer network, but he’s also a husband and father. Fun fact about the actress, Kiele Sanchez, who plays Bridget Voit. She is actually married to Zach Gilford, who plays our mysterious killer.

Elias finds himself in a difficult situation both personally and professionally. No, we don’t just mean that he’s losing control of his network. He’s having trouble financially and later learns that his oldest daughter was accepted into private school. Then he finds out his company is pulling his position amid cutbacks. Plus, a neighbor is verbally abusive towards him and his family.

Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 3 delves into Elias Voit’s life

Instead of turning to his wife, Elias focuses on his network. He’s waiting on money from one of his associates while someone else is preparing for an explosion.

After JJ and Penelope work together to figure out who is communicating with Sicarius on a hidden messaging app, they use the missing kill kits to determine how he chooses his killers. With Rebecca’s help, they find out based on his posts that their suspect is Tyler Green.

Tyler appears to be the best contender they have, especially since he might have an IED on him. They’re able to take him down, but only with the help of the Domestic Terrorism unit, who take the credit.

Unfortunately, with Bailey breathing down their necks, they barely make it in time to take Tyler down. Rebecca gets in trouble with her boss and Rossi is demoted as team leader, which he’s more than okay with. Emily then decides to go back to her position as team leader, not backing down as Bailey tries to threaten her job.

The team discovers that the explosives that Tyler had were fake and are confused about what happened. Then, Tara finds a photo of a young woman in Tyler’s file. She realizes that he was infiltrating the network to take down the man he thought was responsible for his sister’s murder.

Tyler was purposely walking into a park with security cameras to get Sicarius on camera. But the team responded too early. Now, he’s angry and not willing to speak to them.

When Garcia sees that he had a map of the kill kits, she realizes he is the informant who sent her the information through SOAR.

Meanwhile, finding himself backed into a corner, Elias still shows some semblance of control. He abducts a man who looks similar to his neighbor, but doesn’t have a connection to him. In one of the containers he uses to hide his work, he plays classical music as his dog, Moose, viciously attacks the victim.

This was such a fascinating episode since we saw how the team might be one step ahead, or they are trying to be, but they can still fumble the ball. They don’t have the support of their superiors, police won’t listen to their arguments, and now their informant is unwilling to talk.

But knowing what we know about the team, especially Garcia, we’re sure Tyler Green will be an asset for them. At least, we hope he will be.
