If you want to know an episode that is twisted, full of political run arounds, and leaves us devastated before the break in the season, then Criminal Minds: Evolution  episode 5 is for you. This episode found the BAU looking into the case that could have political ramifications and left Deputy Director Doug Bailey eating crow, basically.

Let’s go over what happened. The episode found the team looking into a murderer who would bite his victims with what appeared to be a dental implant. Eventually, the locations where each body was dumped led to a connection to a sitting senator.

Her son, Benjamin, has a criminal past. With how the victims were chosen and made to look like her, they had determined this killer had an Oedipal complex.

Of course, things are “complicated” due to political ramifications for the BAU if they were to arrest a senator’s son. Bailey in particular appears to be trapped between keeping up appearances for the BAU and solving the murder of one of the victim’s who he had dated. Although we have to say, murder seems to be a bigger deal than politics, but reputation, right?

Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 5 brings politics and murder into play

Unfortunately, Bailey failed to stick up for the victims and allowed the senator’s son to be released. This was the wrong choice, as Sicarius, who was connected to Benjamin, was in their home as mother and son arrived home.

Bailey saw the consequences of his decision when the team investigated the murder of the senator. Benjamin had escaped with Sicarius, who the team had found the connection with thanks to Penelope and Tyler. Of course, Tyler wasn’t the best participant in helping and managed to insult Penelope to the point he had to use a bribe to get her to help.

We do admit, the tiny cat was an adorable bribe.

While Sicarius and Benjamin were doing their thing, JJ and Luke arrived in Georgia where they had discovered a possible second container that was buried. But, just as they went inside, a bomb went off, leaving their fates unknown.

This means we have to wait until January when the show returns to find out if they survived. One of them had just made it to the bottom of the stairs where they tried to escape. But the team was in horrified shock as they didn’t respond to their calls.

With the episode having shown us that Will’s life was not in imminent danger, of course they had to follow it with JJ being the one in danger. We just hope that Luke and JJ made it out alive.

The next episode of Criminal Minds: Evolution will air on Jan. 12, 2023.
