2022 brought with it quite a few biopics that are certainly worth watching. Those include Elvis, Netflix’s Blonde, and Devotion about the first Black aviator to complete the U.S. Navy’s basic flight training program. Joining that list is Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody!
The film stars Naomi Ackie as the iconic singer, Stanley Tucci as Whitney’s record producer Clive Davis, Ashton Sanders as Bobby Brown who was her husband, Tamara Tune as the star’s mother Cissy Houston, Clarke Peters takes on the role of her father John Houston, and Nafessa Williams plays Whitney’s friend and assistant Robyn Crawford.
The biographical drama is directed and executive produced by Kasi Lemmons, with a screenplay written by Anthony McCarten. The real-life Clive Davis, who helped discover Houston, serves as a producer on the production.

What is I Wanna Dance with Somebody about?
The biographical musical film is a “powerful” and “triumphant celebration” of the singer and actress, who is nicknamed “The Voice,” per the synopsis. We’ll see how she rose from a choir girl in New Jersey to one of the top best-selling artists of all time. There’s also a complex side to the shining star, taking viewers on an emotional journey as well. And of course, expect to hear some of her biggest hits to sing along to!
