Are the New England Patriots out of the playoffs? (2022)

For the last few decades, the New England Patriots have been a staple in the playoffs due in large part to Tom Brady’s leadership as starting quarterback. However, since Brady left the team, they’ve fallen from grace missing the playoffs in 2020 and being knocked out in the first round of the playoffs in 2021.

Heading into the 2022 season, Patriots fans hoped their team might rebound this season. While the team has been looking solid, the AFC East division has been extremely competitive this year. The result has been the team falling down the ranks.

With the Buffalo Bills securing their place in the postseason in Week 15 by winning the division,  many fans are wondering if the Patriots’ postseason dreams have been dashed.

With their loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 18, the New England Patriots were officially eliminated from the playoffs. In order to have made it into the postseason, the Patriots needed to pick up a win over the Bills in Week 18. In losing their game, New England was knocked out of the postseason.

When was the last time the Patriots missed the playoffs?

The New England Patriots last missed the playoffs in 2020, as they failed to qualify with a 7-9 record. The team was able to rebound the following year and made the playoffs during the 2021 season; however, their playoff run was short-lived. During the Wild Card Weekend, the Patriots lost to the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the playoffs in losing 17–47.
