With a large focus on classic films, romantic comedies, and children’s media, the collection of Christmas movies on Paramount Plus guarantees there will be something for everyone. While there are not many original films on the platform, you’ll likely find something perfect for family movie night during the holidays.

Paramount Plus may have a reputation of being more of an underdog streaming site, but because it is the home to films and series from CBS, Nickelodeon, Paramount, Showtime, and more, the platform shouldn’t be overlooked. Even with a standard subscription, there are many titles available to you.

If holiday romantic comedies are what you’re looking for, there are about a dozen Christmas movies on Paramount Plus. Most of these are CBS films, including Christmas in the Heartland, Christmas Kid, Christmas Takes Flight, A Christmas Proposal, When Christmas was Young, and Fit for Christmas.

However, looking at the classic Christmas movies on Paramount Plus, you’ll definitely notice a… trend. Four of the top movies on the site are all retellings or reimaginings of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Spanning 50 years, the different Christmas movies are each unique and loved in their own ways.

Christmas Movies on Paramount Plus in 2022

A Christmas Carol (1938)

In 1938, MGM produced one of the very first film versions of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. With a runtime of just an hour and ten minutes, the movie stars Reginald Owen and was directed by Edwin L. Marin. If you’re looking for the highest level of nostalgia, you should definitely add this 1938 film to your watch list.

Scrooge (1970)

This film is a musical adaption of the Dickens story, starring Albert Finney as Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge was nominated for several Academy Awards and was praised by critics for its delightful tone and comedy. This version of A Christmas Carol is definitely more light-hearted and fun than other movie adaptations, and is one of the best Christmas movies on Paramount Plus this season.

A Christmas Carol (1984)

In this rebooted version of the film, George C. Scott takes on the role Ebenezer Scrooge and gives a brilliant performance. Fans of this movie celebrate it as being the most heart-warming, tear-jerking, and even chilling adaptation of the story.

Scrooged (1988)

This fantasy-comedy modern reimagining stars Bill Murray as a cold-hearted television executive  who is visited by ghosts on Christmas Eve after he fires a staff member. It’s thought of by fans as a feel-good family Christmas movie, and quickly became a holiday classic in the 1980s.

If A Christmas Carol (in all of its versions) or romantic comedies aren’t what you’re looking for, you may find interest in some of the holiday content from Nickelodeon. Paramount Plus has about a dozen television specials and events in its library from popular shows like The Loud House, The Fairy Odd Parents, Sonic, Rugrats, Inspector Gadget, and more. There are more popular movies available if you also have the Showtime add-on to your subscription.

Paramount Plus is available at a discounted rate during the holidays, starting at $4.99 per month. The site is also currently offering a one-week free trial for new accounts.
