It’s officially award season, meaning many movie and TV lovers across the globe are catching up on the biggest and best titles of the last year. The 2023 Golden Globes took place in January, where we saw movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Black Panther, along with shows such as The Bear and Abbott Elementary get some love. The Academy Awards are up next, taking place this Sunday, March 12.

If you’re like me, there’s still a long list of things to watch, maybe even shows and movies that are up for big awards.

One movie I have seen and would highly recommend is The Banshees of Inisherin, starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The award-nominated film is both hilarious and extremely heartbreaking, making for the perfect dark comedy. It’s directed by Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and received rave reviews when it hit theaters in October 2021.

The movie has been super successful, and in addition to the Golden Globes love, the movie has won multiple BAFTA Awards.

It’s very possible Colin Farrell will win Best Actor at the Academy Awards, but he’s up against really great performances from Brendan Fraser, Paul Mescal, Bill Nighy, and Austin Butler. It’s anyone’s game, really!

Get the tissues ready when you do sit down to watch The Banshees of Inisherin; though it’s certainly lighthearted and silly at times, it’s also very dark and upsetting at others. It’s one of my favorite movies of 2022!
