After a lengthy break for the holiday season, Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 6 came back after a fiery cliffhanger in episode 5. JJ and Luke were caught up in an explosion, but thankfully we quickly find out both survived. It appeared Sicarius didn’t want them to actually die in the explosion and only wanted to get rid of the evidence of his misdeeds.

The episode not only brought us closer to who Sicarius is, but gave the backstory between him and his uncle, Cyrus. His uncle took him in after the deaths of his parents and essentially raised him by showing him how to commit murders.

One case in particular caught the team’s eye after the explosion. There was a photo that was found of a woman who was killed 20 years ago and her killer, Silvio, was set for execution. However, the time on the clock behind her showed her to be alive hours after she was believed to be killed. The only issue was the prosecutor on the case was Tara’s girlfriend, Rebecca.

Rebecca didn’t take the news well, especially after finding out about it from someone other than Tara. She was hurt that Tara didn’t trust her enough to come to her, but she was adamant about the killer’s guilt.

Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 6 introduces us to Cyrus

Even though the case was affecting her relationship, Tara watched as Luke and Emily questioned the inmate. However, he refused to help them and would rather die. The team realized he was likely being blackmailed into staying quiet. They found letters spanning years that were sent to him with a quote and a photo of the same man.

Tara realized the man in the photo was the inmate’s secret boyfriend, who was in a gang with him at the time, and he’s the one being protected. But still, Silvio would rather die because that means the threats to his former boyfriend’s life will stop.

Finding the man in question, the team learned that the person that sold them guns was obsessed with the victim, Maria, and that his name was Cyrus. He didn’t know much else about him, but he also had photographs proving Silvio’s alibi. But he never gave them to the police because Silvio told him not to.

Rebecca did, in the end, make the call to the governor to stay the execution, but she was still hurt over feeling like Tara didn’t trust her. Hopefully they can work things out.

In other relationship news, it appeara Tyler and Garcia are getting closer. They clearly like each other, but Garcia is trying to keep her boundaries. But at one point, when they went out after she helped him sober up after an altercation, they found themselves near his sister’s former place of work. Garcia saw the name of the street and came to a realization.

All of the victims in the case had a connection to a Second Street, and even though Allison’s seemed different, the street did used to be called Second Street. It clearly holds importance to Sicarius, who the team also realized, through the victimologies, is a parent himself.

The end of the episode also revealed that Cyrus was still alive, but not for long. Even though Sicarius may have gotten rid of the biggest ghost of his life, Cyrus’ words about family being the reason he’ll get caught might just ring true.

This was a great episode that showed how a case could affect the lives of those involved. From Rebecca’s entire career being called into question to JJ just wanting time off to be with her family, there was a lot happening.

There are only three episodes to go and we cannot wait to see what will happen. Let us know your thoughts on Criminal Minds: Evolution episode 6 in the comments below.
