Why is there no Thursday Night Football game tonight, January 12?

The NFL regular season might be complete, but there is still plenty of football to be played before the season is officially over!

Now that the season has ended, only 14 teams remain alive with a chance of making it to the Super Bowl. All that stands between them and making it into the season’s biggest game are a few final matchups, which are set to begin unfolding in the weeks ahead.

The playoffs will officially kick off this week with Super Wild Card Weekend. Across Super Wild Card Weekend, twelve of the remaining teams will take to the field in hopes of picking up a win and advancing to the next round of the playoffs.

Fans are in store for a series of must-see games which will play out across a number of days. Unfortunately, though, the lineup does not include a Thursday Night Football game.

Why isn’t Thursday Night Football on tonight? (January 12)

Simply put, there isn’t a Thursday Night Football game on January 12, 2023, because the NFL only scheduled Thursday games through Week 17. This means the last Thursday Night Football of the 2022 season was broadcast on Dec. 29, 2022.

With the regular season having come to a close, the only remaining games to be played are the playoff games which typically air across CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN, and ABC. As Thursday Night Football streams on Amazon Prime as part of a coverage deal for regular season games, Amazon Prime is not in the mix for playoff games at the moment.

It’s possible the NFL and Amazon could look to come to a deal for a playoff game to be streamed exclusively on Amazon in the future; however, the current deal does not appear to include any playoff coverage which is why no Thursday Night Football playoff game has been scheduled.
