Hallmark Channel is debuting their first authentically original series of 2023 on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. The Way Home, a family drama with a time traveling twist stars Andie MacDowell, Chyler Leigh, and Sadie Laflamme-Snow as three generations of women who come together under one roof when changing circumstances lead an estranged daughter back home.
The show is an interesting pivot for Hallmark Channel which is in the middle of rolling out the Wedding Veil sequel trilogy on Saturdays in January. Those films are romcoms with heartfelt messages, a core of friendship, and are on the lighter side of entertainment. The Way Home, however, seems to be a bit heavier in content though it, too, is focused on family and community.
Here’s what we know about the show!
What is The Way Home about on Hallmark Channel?
Set in the small, Canadian farm town of Port Haven, the series introduces viewers to Alice (Laflamme-Snow), the 15 year old daughter of Kat Landry (Leigh), who finally meets her grandmother Del (MacDowell) when Kat decides to go home while processing the end of her marriage and after she’s laid off from her job. The move is prompted by the letter Del sends urging her daughter to come back to the family farm.
Alice, of course, is less than thrilled but when she comes across a pond on the property that can send her back in time, she sees an opportunity. More than two decades ago, her mother left Port Haven after life-changing events put her on a course that diverted from her original plan. Back then, Kat had been close with her family. Her relationship with her mother wasn’t strained.
Seeing how the two women once were, Alice decides she’s going to figure out what went wrong so that she can help them heal wounds that have festered for far too long. In the process, all three generations of women embark on a journey that’ll lead them back to one another.
