The Los Angeles Chargers are set to play in the Wild Card playoffs today after finishing the regular season with a 10-7 record, earning them the No. 5 seed in the AFC. While the Chargers might not have been able to take the AFC West which once again went to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chargers are looking to make a run in the playoffs.
The Chargers will be facing off against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team that has been on one of the hottest streaks in the league this season. It will be a tough test for the Chargers, but if they can play to their potential, they have a chance to pull off the win and advance to the next round.
Led by quarterback Justin Herbert, the team has a potent passing attack that has been able to put up points in bunches. However, the team’s passing game could look quite different in the team’s game due to the Week 18 injury of star wide receiver Mike Williams.
Will Mike Williams play in the Chargers game today? (January 14)
Heading into today’s playoff game against the Jaguars, the Los Angeles Chargers were able to avoid a lengthy injury report but there is one player who will be sitting the game out: Mike Williams. That’s right, after sustaining a back injury in Week 18, Williams will not be playing in the team’s Wild Card playoff game against the Jaguars.
Mike Williams injury update
In Week 18, the Los Angeles Chargers had nothing to lose and nothing to gain. Despite this, the team still chose to play its key starters for most of the game which was a big risk — one that has cost the team a key member of its offense.
During the game against the Denver Broncos in Week 18, Mike Williams sustained a back injury which left his status as questionable all week. After sitting out practice throughout the week, there was a hope Williams could be ready to play against the Jaguars; however, NFL Media insider Tom Pelissero reports further testing revealed Williams suffered a fracture in his back which is expected to keep him sidelined for 2-3 weeks.
